A real strip-down
Not a squirt of canned air through the vents. We take it apart, clean the heatsink properly and replace the thermal paste.
Most PS4s that come to us are not broken so much as choked. Years of dust, dried thermal paste and a fan working twice as hard as it should. We strip, clean and repaste them — and fix the HDMI ports, disc drives and power faults too.

The PS4 has been around long enough that its failures are thoroughly understood. Nearly every one we see is heat, the HDMI port, the disc drive or the power supply — and all four are fixable for far less than replacing the console.
Heat is the headline. The heatsink fills with dust, the thermal paste goes hard, and the fan compensates by screaming. Left alone the console starts shutting itself down mid-game. A proper strip and clean, with fresh paste, usually transforms it.
The other classic is no picture on the TV with the console clearly running. That is the HDMI port, damaged by a knock to a plugged-in cable. It is fine soldering work and we do it here rather than sending it away.
Standing a PS4 in a cabinet with no airflow is the fastest way to kill one. After we clean it, give it space to breathe on all sides — it will stay quiet far longer.

Micro-soldering on our own bench with a microscope, rather than a two-week trip to Auckland and back.
A clean and repaste is normally a same-day job. Soldering work takes longer and we will say so up front.
